  • Green Smoothie in Paradise

B and the kids and I have been relaxing on Maui for the past few days, and I decided to take a break from the fun to share a new green smoothie recipe. While on vacation I loosen up on my diet and enjoy some of the treats that are off limits at home — that being said, I still make a point to get my greens everyday. The easiest way to get greens is of course with a green smoothie. We are staying in a condo that has a fully equipped kitchen (yippie!) including a blender. While it is no Vita-Mix, with a few modifications to my Green Smoothie 2.0 recipe I was able to make it work.

  • Green Power Smoothie 2.0

Since creating the Green Power Smoothie a few months ago my morning recipe has slowly evolved. I’ve reduced the sweetness and have increased the nutrient content — the result is a mouth-watering smoothie that will make your cells vibrate with green energy. The kids have gotten so used to drinking their green smoothie each morning that Chloe now comes running when she hears the blender, yelling, “I want my green snooozie!”

  • Green Power Smoothie

I started making this smoothie every morning for breakfast after reading chapter 3 of Victoria Boutenko’s book ‘12 Steps to Raw Foods — How to end your dependency on cooked food’. Boy, does she have some strong points as to why we should all consume a large helping of greens every day.

  • Maple Pecan Milk

This recipe for pecan milk is lighter than my other nut milk recipes. If you want to make it creamier just add less water. The delicate maple and cinnamon flavor of this milk is really great over raw granola.

  • Creamy Chocolate Shake

Wow, this shake is by far my favorite. It is amazingly creamy and the chocolate flavor is fantastic. Be sure to use raw cacao powder — this stuff is actually good for you. It’s packed with magnesium, calcium and iron. All that and it tastes incredible.

  • Brazil Nut Milk

Brazil nuts are high in selenium, which creates a complete protein. This is rare in plant foods, and means that it contains all of the amino acids. In addition to the health benefits, brazil nut milk is quite delicious. Add it to smoothies, pour it over raw granola or just drink it by the glass full.

  • Sweet Almond Milk

If you haven’t made fresh almond milk, then you’re in for a treat. You will feel very industrious having produced your own milk — a wonderful accomplishment. This recipe is sweet, feel free to adjust that to suit your taste. Also, feel free to make a double batch, however only blend and strain 2 cups at a time.

  • Pineapple Sunset

Layered drinks just look cool. This shake is easy to whip up and instantly transports you to a hammock on a tropical beach where you rock gently in the lazy afternoon sun…

  • Banana Cinnamon Shake

There seem to be endless varieties of raw shakes with the base of banana, almond butter and ice. Today I was in the mood for extra banana, so this is what I came up with. Also I’ve been using my cool new cinnamon grinder every chance I get. It adds amazing flavor.

  • The Green Cleanse

The name says it all. One swig of this vibrant green liquid and you instantly feel healthier. The apple, ginger and lime are the dominant flavors, while the spinach gives it the gorgeous color. I love getting all the benefits of spinach while sipping on a tasty drink.

  • Happy Day Shake

Wild blueberries have a rich antioxidant content, and are what give this shake its beautiful color. This shake is very filling–it makes a delicious light lunch.

  • Banana Shake

I came up with this one when my 4 yr old came down with a fever and needed something cold and comforting. This banana shake did the job, and even worked in a sippy cup!

  • Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice

Fresh squeezed orange juice is such a different experience from store-bought orange juice. It has a frothy almost whipped texture and, depending on the oranges used, can be amazingly sweet. All that and it is nutritionally superior to store-bought juice.

  • Fresh Squeezed Mimosa

If you’ve ever had a mimosa then you know that the tangy, bubbly beverage is loads of fun. Take your next mimosa to a whole new level by using fresh squeezed orange juice.

  • Vegetable Delight Juice

I used to be a 2 cups of creamer-and-sugar-laden coffee per morning kind of girl. After becoming veegetarian decided to kick my caffeine habit, which did wonders for my energy levels, but I missed having something tasty to sip throughout the morning.

This Vegetable Delight Juice is my new morning sipper. It is sweet apple with a hint of bitter spinach, an explosion of ginger, and the smooth creaminess of carrot.
